A new method for the identification of thousands of circular RNAs

Abstract

Running title: Discovery of circRNAs Comment on: Panda AC, De S, Grammatikakis I, et al. High-purity circular RNA isolation method (RPAD) reveals vast collection of intronic circRNAs. Nucleic Acids Res. 2017;45:e116 Topic: Identified in the early 1990s, mammalian circular RNAs have recently generated a lot of interest as a novel type of regulatory molecules involved in regulation of gene expression and unconventional therapeutic targets. In line with the need to develop and improve new methods for their identification and to study their role in molecular circuitries, the study by Panda et al. published in Nucleic Acids Research in July 2017 offers a new strategy for the systematic identification of circRNAs and revealed a special class of intron-derived circRNAs.
