Designing a Learner Translator Corpus for Training Purposes
Abstract
This article sets out to present the development of a multilingual annotated Learner Translator
Corpus (hereafter LTC) – a corpus whose core is composed of translations produced by
trainee translators and whose primary purpose is to provide insights into the most significant
characteristics of such texts in order to inform translation pedagogy. The LTC was designed
in the framework of the EU-funded Leonardo da Vinci project called MeLLANGE
(Multilingual e-Learning in LANGuage Engineering) which aims at devising a methodology
for the collaborative creation of eLearning teaching content in the fields of translation and
translation technology, producing corpus-based teaching materials and, more ambitiously,
establishing a framework for a European Master in Translation Technologies.
